Canon unveils new camera line

Johannesburg, 09 Feb 2011

Canon has released two new cameras in its entry-level EOS line; the 600D - a compact, lightweight D-SLR, and the 1100D, which has improved HD capabilities.

Both cameras are upgrades to Canon's existing entry-level range and are placed above the 550D.

“[The 600D] is perfect choice for aspiring photographers looking for a combination of outstanding image quality and ease-of-use,” says Roger Machin, photo and video product manager at Canon Consumer Imaging SA.

It features an 18MP CMOS sensor, 'scene intelligent' Auto mode, which analyses the scene and adjusts settings accordingly, and full-HD video.

The 600D also includes 3.7 frames per second continuous shooting, a wide-area nine-point auto focus, a1 040k-dot vari-angle 7.7cm screen and built-in flash control.

The 1100D includes many technologies, which Canon says are developed for more advanced models, the 1100D seems to be a good transition camera for going between amateur and professional.

The key features include 12MP image quality, HD video ISO 100 to 6 400 sensitivity, wide-area nine-point auto focus system, 63-zone iFCL exposure metering, a 6.8cm 230 000-dot screen and capability to use with all EF and EF-S lenses.

In its point-and-shoot range, Canon has also released the IXUS 310 HS and 115 HS. Both use Canon's new HS imaging system, which is said to allow for more vibrancy and reduced grain.

“Featuring Canon's HS System, the IXUS 115 HS makes it easy for you to take outstanding shots in all conditions,” says Abri Kriegler, product manager at Canon Consumer Imaging SA.

“Designed for users who want superior performance and styling, the IXUS 310 HS provides excellent image quality and a host of advanced features, making it easy to capture crisp stills and stunning 1080p video,” Kriegler says.
