Shocked Technology Solutions (STS), Cape Town based BEE solutions developer, has recently launched a range of new service offerings. Amongst these products is a new product called PDFeXchange.
What is PDFeXchange?
It is an email-based application for use in multi-user networks which requires the conversion and protection of documents in PDF format. The software caters for approximately 300 types of document formats including Microsoft Office, Star Office and Corel Office.
Unique features
With PDFeXhange there is no need for conversion software at the end user PC. The software application runs on a central computer situated at STS, which then queries the mail server. The entire document conversion process is email based. The end user sends the completed document to a pre-set email address (example, pdf@company.com). The PDFeXchange engine scans the e-mail for the attachment, converts the document and returns the pdf version to the end-user. Value-added features include detailed reports and security features.
'The idea for the software came about whilst working with clients who make use of multiple Office and Groupware products, who needed a common format to convert files. Purchasing conversion software for 1000s of desktops was out of the question. Thus, PDFeXchange was the solution.' says Allie Khan, managing director of STS.
PDFeXchange was developed using Microsoft.NET and C# with support for open Internet standards like POP3 and SMTP protocols. It therefore operates on all platforms which support these standards.
Benefits and future developments
PDFeXchange is already deployed at a number of large corporates, and caters to the PDF conversion needs of thousands of users.
'PDFeXchange will be further developed to cater for the SMME market as well on an ASP or pay-per-use basis', says Allie Khan.
