Carbon Trust ropes in China
The Carbon Trust signed its strategically most important international partnership with China in an attempt to open China's vast market to British low-carbon technology, reports FT.com.
The UK government, which is promoting green technology as a way to create jobs and help mitigate the effects of the recession, will provide about a quarter of the initial £10 million investment.
The US department of commerce estimates the value of China's clean technology market will reach $186 billion in 2010 and grow to $555 billion by 2020.
Seagate ships green hard drives
Seagate has begun shipping its new line of low-power desktop hard drives entitled Seagate Barracuda LP (low power), states Examiner.com.
The drives are targeted at the cost-effective and energy-efficient desktop PC market, but involve sacrificing drive speed for energy efficiency and high-density storage.
The 1TB, 1.5TB, and 2TB drives come in the standard 3.5-inch form factor with a speed of 5900RPM.
Adaptiva addresses power management
Adaptiva has released Green Planet, a PC power and configuration management solution aiming to boost power efficiency, says PRWeb.
Adaptiva has also integrated Green Planet with Microsoft's System Centre Configuration Manager 2007, to increase IT energy efficiency in distributed PC environments.
Peter Burnham, founder of Adaptiva, says: "A company with a 10 000 PC environment can potentially save $263 000 annually and reduce carbon emissions by 1 850 tons."
