Dhinesh Kumar Ganesan is "passionate about energy and the smart grid". A project manager with Infosys in India, he is a Master of Business Administration (MBA) candidate who hopes to become an energy consultant one day. To reach his goal, Ganesan is supplementing his graduate work with an efficiency education from Energy University by Schneider Electric, a specialist in energy management.
Energy University is an on-demand educational resource offering two cost-effective, online-only certification programmes: Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA) and Professional Energy Manager (PEM). Each programme provides solid, marketable credentials, proof of professional achievement and industry credibility.
Earning the PEM certification has distinguished Ganesan from his colleagues and offers a clear competitive advantage. "Energy is an expanding, in-demand field, and certification is a great tool for improving one's career path," he says. "The PEM exam and certification will certainly qualify my knowledge, add value, and increase my profile rating among other professionals.
"I learned about Energy University through its LinkedIn groups and RSS feeds," says Ganesan. "Today, energy project managers need to understand the various parameters around energy practices to manage projects successfully. Energy University offers an open forum. And, it connects individuals to industry experts and resources around the world."
In addition to preparatory certification learning paths, Energy University also offers more than 200 data centre and efficiency courses. All courses are free and available on demand, eliminating travel and scheduling challenges. Online certification exams are affordable, and can be completed anytime, enabling ambitious individuals to build resumes and improve on-the-job performance with career-enhancing professional certification.
Ganesan was especially intrigued by the opportunity to earn the Professional Energy Manager (PEM) certification. Developed by Energy University in partnership with the Institute of Energy Professionals (IEP), PEM certification enables efficiency-minded individuals to acquire real-world energy management skills and knowledge.
It also provides a solid, marketable credential, proof of achievement, and exposure to current and emerging industry trends. The PEM certification is the longest-running energy management training programme in the world, and is a critical component of the Energy Management Diploma Program developed by North Carolina State University in the US.
In addition to being a valuable course of study, this certification offers a credible and widely recognised credential to complement an individual's professional experience. "I realised that certification recognised by the IEP would certainly enhance my career, and so I chose to take the PEM exam," Ganesan recalls.
To prepare users for the exam, Energy University offers a free development path comprising 40 hours of dedicated learning time. Topics include energy audits, building controls, finance, lighting, pumping systems, and green business practices. In addition to on-demand courses, Energy University offers an online test option that allows busy professionals to balance learning with personal and work obligations.
