Computer Associates Africa has released its enterprise backup and recovery solution, BrightStor Enterprise Backup 10.5 to the South African market.
BrightStor 10.5 enables companies to align data protection costs with the value of that data to the business.

Significantly, BrightStor Enterprise Backup gives storage administrators the flexibility to use the resource the most appropriate for each storage type by integrating with CA`s own management solutions - including BrightStor ARCserve Backup - and a range of third-party offerings such as snapshot imagery technology from EMC, HP, Hitachi and Microsoft.

In addition, BrightStor Enterprise Backup allow enterprise storage policies to be defined from a centralised console across all major platforms, including Window Server 2003/2000/NT, major Unix derivatives and Linux distributions, NetWare and Open VMS.
It also provides for the backup and recovery of Microsoft SQL Server and Exchange, Oracle, Lotus Notes, Sybase, SAPR/3, Advantage Ingres, DB2 and other key applications.

BrightStor Enterprise Backup 10.5 has been benchmarked as the fastest recovery and backup solution for multi-terabyte databases. In testing with Microsoft last fall, for example, a beta version of BrightStor Enterprise Backup 10.5 achieved a record-setting 2.6 terabyte-per-hour archival backup of a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database running on Windows 2000 Datacenter Server. BrightStor Enterprise Backup`s restore performance achieved a sustained rate of 2.2TB/hr.
CA customers can use BrightStor Enterprise Backup 10.5 to manage their BrightStor ARCserve Backup version 9 environments, allowing them to seamlessly migrate to a true on-demand data protection strategy while protecting their existing investments. Integration with BrightStor Storage Resource Manager, CA`s eTrust Antivirus, and CA`s Unicenter Network and Systems Management and Unicenter Software Delivery further enhances manageability for IT administrators.
