Computer Associates International, today announced general availability of Unicenter Database Management r11 for IMS for z/OS, a comprehensive, integrated solution that enables IMS users to optimise database performance, reduce data centre operations costs and protect business-critical data more effectively.
In addition to supporting IMS v9, this latest version offers enhancements that help organisations safeguard database integrity, minimise backup and recovery times, and conserve CPU resources.
It also bundles functionality previously licensed separately into three core products - Unicenter Database Analyzer, Unicenter Database Organizer and Unicenter High Performance Recovery - providing even greater business value to data centre buyers. Customers will gain this bundled functionality at no charge when they upgrade to the r11 release.
New functionality includes a Control Block Validity Manager for enhanced database integrity, a Forward Recovery feature that provides a "hot backup" database in case the primary database goes down, and improved ease of use. Support for new IMS v9 features includes automatically identifying and operating on the correct data set group after the IMS v9 High Availability Large Database (HALDB) online reorganization process has occurred, and supporting compression of Data Entry Databases (DEDB) when they are opened by multiple Task Control Blocks (TCBs).
