C.a.T.S. provides SafikaTel with complete voice solution

Johannesburg, 25 Aug 2005

C.a.T.S. is very happy to announce the conclusion of a transaction with SafikaTel, a leading WASP (wireless application service provider), to supply cutting-edge voice technology in terms of an interactive voice response system.

The system can handle several hundred simultaneous calls and can be upgraded to add several hundred more. The system is the largest IBM system with a WASP in Africa and the first version 4.2 of Websphere Voice Response on AIX version 5.2.

The system is based on IBM`s proven and reliable pSeries servers from the new Power 5 range running on AIX. The voice platform is IBM`s WebSphere Voice Response with VoiceXML capability. The system makes use of two servers, allowing for future voice port expansions and also allowing for much needed BCP and DRP requirements.

C.a.T.S. founder Johan Grobler stated: "It was important for us to supply our customer with a system which will fully support their current applications and integration development, but also furnish them with the option to make use of exciting new technologies like VoiceXML."

Grobler continued: "What also adds value to the solution is the voice over IP possibilities of the system making use of SIP. Softphone access to the system affords developers the luxury to call and test applications from their development environment without the need of propriety SDKs. This is helpful in cases, where for VoiceXML development, only a text editor is used."

The technology also provides possibilities like transferring traditional PSTN calls to VOIP calls in the IVR unit. This makes it possible to receive calls in PSTN and present callers with IVR functionality, but then also accommodate a VOIP-based call centre by transferring the call to an agent as a VOIP call.

Grobler continues: "Even though this is very new and exciting technology, we have the systems and technologies running in our offices to ensure we are familiar with it, and confident in taking it to market. An additional benefit of working with the technologies in a lab environment is being able to fashion the technologies into real business solutions with very attractive return of investment."

This transaction brings the total number of ports installed by C.a.T.S. in 2005 to more than 1 400.

"It is important to us, as a technology provider, to know that the IVR platform we supply is a true telco grade solution, especially so if the revenue of our client depends on the system`s availability and up time," Grobler concluded.
