BEA Systems, Inc, the world`s leading application infrastructure software company, today announced that CBCA Inc, a full-service benefits administration and outsourcing firm, has standardised on the unified, simplified and extensible BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform for its application and portal development, integration, and management.
CBCA employs more than 1 000 professionals and manages over $1 billion in annual disbursements for healthcare and related services on behalf of more than 800 clients.
CBCA views technology as a strategic differentiator in an industry known for paper- and labour-intensive processes. CBCA made its strategic decision to standardise on BEA`s enterprise software platform to accelerate development, deployment, integration and presentation of new applications, reduce the cost required to manage its infrastructure, and streamline business processes such as forms submission, claims processing, and status inquiries.
"The BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform is enabling us to be more competitive in the market, more customer-centric in the delivery of services, and more economical in our operations," said James Raby, senior vice-president and chief technology officer at CBCA. "For example, we are planning to build a self-serve portal on BEA WebLogic Portal that will provide patients and doctors with timelier and more convenient service as well as enable us to reduce the number of calls into our call centre. And on the technical side, our component-based enterprise architecture allows us to reuse software code so we can roll-out new applications faster and cheaper, which are compelling competitive advantages."
CBCA reviewed all the leading platform vendors before deciding to standardise on BEA WebLogic. The selection criteria included high availability and performance suitable for a mission-critical environment, a short learning curve for developers, rapid application deployment and integration, open standards to maximise business flexibility, and a portal framework that could be configured and administered by business users for optimal usability.
"After studying all our options, it become clear that BEA offered the technical capabilities and support required to help move our business forward," said Raby. "We built an auto-adjudication application on BEA WebLogic that allows us to process, price, and close out claims faster, more efficiently and more consistently than was possible previously. It`s helping us reduce our transaction and processing costs as well as provide our customers with a superior level of service."
