CBS chooses Mitel virtualisation
The technology will allow the approximately 4 700 CBS employees across Canada to stay connected to the office, including with voice applications.
This is good news, given that Mitel, which had an IPO just over year ago, has been struggling of late.
Mitel is restructuring after posting a $4 million net loss, which included $7 million in restructuring fees, in Q3 2011. It is releasing half of its employees and letting go of up to 200 000 square feet of office space in Kanata Research Park, outside of Ottawa.
According to TMC Net, CBS has two strategic directions. Terry Cairns, the CIO for Canadian Blood Services, says one is managing growth and the other one is managing efficiencies. “And as a result, virtualisation becomes extremely important to help us enable both of those.”
“Through the Mitel Freedom architecture, Mitel allows us to bring voice into our virtualised environment. The Mitel Freedom architecture also gives us the opportunity to use some of our existing technology and makes it easier for us to manage within our infrastructure,” Cairns adds.
CBS is looking to leverage collaboration between employees to encourage productivity, writes Data Centre Journal.
Communication needs of its mobile employees and virtualisation strategy need to fit seamlessly and Mitel is confident about providing this UCC strategy. The organisation is also using the parts of the existing technology infrastructure in CBS.
