Against stiff competition, convergence solutions specialist CCI recently won a lucrative contract from one of South Africa`s leading law practices, Hofmeyr Herbstein Gihwala Cluver & Walkers Inc., to provide a structured cabling infrastructure for the firm`s new premises in Stellenbosch.
Hofmeyr tapped CCI`s 15 years of independent cabling expertise after deciding to relocate two separate Stellenbosch offices into consolidated facilities in the historic Meulplein Building.
Working within stringent National Monuments Council requirements, CCI designed and installed a `future-ready` Category 6 cabling solution encompassing voice, data, power and overhead lighting for the ground-floor retail component as well as the upper-level office areas.
Based on world-class RIT technology, the scaleable, high-performance infrastructure includes some 250 termination points serving a staff of about 85 people.
"There`s quite a contrast between the old-world facade and the brand-new, ultra-modern wiring network," remarks Shaun Bennie, Hofmeyr`s IT consultant.
"We insisted on a top-of-the-range solution," he continues, "because we recognise that the physical platform is the most enduring portion of the network. It has to not only continue to operate indefinitely but also adapt to newer, more powerful technologies as these are implemented by the firm.
"One of the reasons for accepting CCI`s design was because we felt we couldn`t buy anything better. Being a Cat. 6 solution, it will support very high, gigabit-class throughput should we require it in the future. Patch-level manageability and exceptional ease of configuration will allow the network to expand cost-effectively, flexibly and with minimal disruption."
Bennie, a self-admitted `difficult customer`, says extreme care was taken upfront to verify the integrity of every element of the network.
"Attention to detail is absolutely critical to ensure the system as a whole reliably performs to the level we require. CCI spared no effort in fulfilling our expectations within budget and the time-frame."
Successful completion of this project prompted Hofmeyr to earmark CCI as its convergence partner when the law firm redevelops its Long Street premises in Cape Town in the near future.
