Cell C says it will make public the details of its post-paid or contract terms next Wednesday, although it is sticking to the promise of having the services available before end-November.
CEO Talaat Laham says the company has been inundated with requests for contracts since its prepaid launch two weeks ago.
"Due to this huge consumer demand we have decided to phase in our contract offers, beginning with the clients and organisations that have already booked contracts with us," he says in a statement.
Cell C has declared its launch a success, with 80 000 of the 180 000 starter packs it sold since launch in use.
The contract offer is expected to include transferring existing numbers to the 084 prefix, with the remaining seven digits remaining the same. Cell C is also promising a simple selection of packages, in keeping with the simplified tariffs it introduced for prepaid.
Chief strategist Paul Doany has also promised "a very big surprise for four to five million Telkom customers" next week. Although he did not elaborate, his statement is thought to refer to a pricing option that would see consumers pay a rate similar to that offered by Telkom when they are in a specified geographic area under a "homezone" offer.
Doany also says Cell C believes many of the underage users currently using prepaid services from MTN and Vodacom should be on cheaper contract plans and a special offer will be launched for this group.
