Mohammed Hariri has been appointed as a director and chairman of the Cell C board, and will take over from Simon Duffy, who will leave after holding the position since 2007.
In an announcement this morning, Cell C said Duffy had resigned, but did not give further details.
Hariri, chairman of the board of Oger Telecom - Cell C's majority shareholder - also serves as chairman on the boards of a number of international companies and acts as vice-chairman (finance and investment) of Saudi Oger, where he has been a member of the company's management for more than 30 years.
Duffy, who took over from Talaat Laham in February 2007, also stood in as acting CEO of Cell C when Lars Reichelt suddenly resigned in July 2011, and remained in that role until Alan Knott-Craig took the reins in April last year.
Duffy also served on Oger's board as a non-executive director. Between 2007 and 2008, he was chairman of Tradus, before which he was executive vice-chairman of ntl:Telewest (now Virgin Media Group), having previously been president, CEO and COO of ntl, the major component of Virgin Media.
Prior to ntl, Duffy was CFO of Orange SA and before that CEO of Denmark-based wireless data company End2End. He joined End2End from Internet service provider WorldOnline International, where he was CEO and deputy chairman.
