Cell C prepares for number portability

Cell C has released Valuechat, a low-cost postpaid package where subscribers use their existing handsets.

The package is one of the products the company will release as part of its readiness plan for mobile number portability (MNP), says Cell C spokesperson Pamela Mongoato Radebe.

The 12-month contract has no monthly subscription fee and users are required to spend a minimum of R50 a month, says Cell C.

Services such as itemised billing and calling line identification are not compulsory, although these are included by default, the company says.

Valuechat has been custom-designed to add value to those subscribers who require airtime but do not need handsets and long-term contracts, says Radebe.

MNP , published in September last year, provide that mobile operators begin implementing MNP by June 2006.
