Cell C is funding the Model UN Debate competition, which will be held in Cape Town, and is enabling four Johannesburg high school learners` participation in the event.

They will compete with pupils from around the country.

"It is critical for learners to be exposed to opportunities such as this particular project. This competition is aligned to our commitment to support . This can be seen in our flagship project, the Take a Girl Child to Work Day, which in its fourth successful year," says Cell C`s corporate social investment manager, Mercia Maserumule.

The grade 11 pupils, Sthembiso Dliwayo and Siyabulela Rampia, from Morris Isaacson High School, and Riette Smit and Charlotte Cronje, from Ho"erskool Linden, beat schools from the Gauteng region at an event at the Gauteng Legislature.

The team is now preparing to take part and debate at a national level, against eight other provincial teams on 12 October.

"The learners will fly to Cape Town and stay at the Waterfront Breakwater Lodge, at no cost to the learners or schools," says Maserumule.

The winning South African team (which will consist of four learners from the winning province, plus one learner from each of the eight provinces) will represent SA at the international conference, in New York.
