The BlackBerry Curve 9320 - aimed at the socially connected youth - is now available from third cellphone operator Cell C.

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) and Cell C yesterday confirmed availability of the handsets, which were announced by RIM in May.

The new smartphone is available on Cell C's Hero Deal - a Straight Up 50 Top Up contract -at R179 per month, for 24 months, including a BlackBerry Social and e-mail plan - or on a prepaid basis for R2 699. The BlackBerry Curve 9320 is also available on all Cell C's Straight Up Deals.

In addition to a dedicated BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) key, the new BlackBerry 9320 smartphone features all BlackBerry messaging and social networking abilities, offers both 3G and WiFi connectivity, and has longer battery life, says RIM.

Karin Fourie, executive head of communications at Cell C, says the Curve 9320 is the ideal device for users who want a phone that “makes it easy to connect socially, share their lives and enjoy rich online content and media”.

Running on the BlackBerry 7.1 operating system, the Curve 9320 features social networking applications for Facebook and Twitter. It also has Social Feeds 2.0, which allows users to post updates to multiple social applications simultaneously and capture updates from news sources (RSS), social apps and instant messaging apps in one consolidated view.

It also includes a built-in FM radio, which does not require services, and the battery gives up to seven hours of talk time or up to 30 hours of FM listening or music playback with headphones. The handset's integrated camera includes a flash and supports video recording, and pictures can also be tagged with their location thanks to the smartphone's built-in GPS.

Additional features include Mobile Hotspot support, which allows customers to share their mobile connection with up to five WiFi-enabled devices, including laptops and tablets.
