Mobile service provider Cell C plans to offer Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution (EDGE) and 3G before the end of this year.
Cell C made this announcement today when it released its results for the quarter ending 30 June.
MTN launched its 3G offering around three months ago and Vodacom introduced 3G in December last year.
Talaat Laham, Cell C`s chairman and CEO, said the service provider sees EDGE as an enabler for it to provide reliable high-speed Internet accessibility to both the formal and informal sectors.
On other strategic developments, Laham said: "Discussions with Virgin to form a joint venture service provider in SA are progressing well and we expect to be able to make an announcement in this regard before the end of September."
