Cell C targets late night and early morning Internet users in its latest data campaign, which sees per MB prices of less than 2c.
As of next week, customers will be able to purchase one of two "GigaNite" bundles, which will give them cheaper data to use from midnight until 6am daily.
Cell C says from 10 October, customers will be able to bolt either a 10GB bundle at R149 per month or the 20GB bundle, at R249 per month, onto any Cell C SmartData postpaid contract, depending on their overnight data needs.
"The 10GB or 20GB GigaNite bundle will be loaded in addition to the 'anytime' bundle that comes as part of the customer's selected SmartData contract."
The bundles, available to new and existing SmartData postpaid customers, do not apply to international roaming.
Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig says he made the move because customers have been asking for larger data bundles for overnight downloads and surfing, and seeing as there is a "significant" amount of capacity available on the operator's network at night. "We decided to pass on this benefit to customers and offer data at extremely competitive rates during this time period. Our GigaNite bundles work out to be less than 2c per MB."
All data usage from midnight until 6am will be deducted from the GigaNite bundles first, after which any other loaded bundle will be used. Out of bundle rates are 15c per MB.
The GigaNite data bundle will automatically be loaded on the first of every month and will be valid until the end of that calendar month.
