Cell C has launched an international calling promotion that sees calls to certain destinations being cut to a flat 65c rate.
The operator says, as of this week, calls to the UK, USA, Germany, Greece, Portugal, France, Belgium, Canada, Spain, India, China and Singapore will cost Cell C customers 65c per minute (pure per second billing) to both fixed and mobile lines to these destinations.
There is no opt-in, notes Cell C, and the new rates are applicable to all new and existing prepaid, topup, postpaid and least cost routing customers until 31 January 2014.
Last year, Cell C and Vodacom were locked in a mobile price war when Vodacom launched its 89c international rate promotion, only to be undercut by Cell C's new "lowest international call rate" of 85c per minute.
In September, MTN sent out a press statement introducing what it claims are the lowest international call rates to key African destinations. From as little as 75c a minute, consumers were able to talk to people living in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Nigeria, Lesotho and Swaziland, said the operator. The promotion will run until the end of January 2014.
