UK-based mobile synchronisation and device management solutions provider Synchronica has opened an office in Dubai. It will service Middle East, Africa (MEA) and the Indian subcontinent.
The company provides a mobile software solution, which is attracting huge demand from the region, says CEO Carsten Brinkschulte.
The solution, Mobile Gateway, brings mobile e-mail and synchronisation to mass-market devices, generating additional revenue from the business and professional consumer segments, explains the company`s Web site.
Interest from mobile operators and service providers in MEA and the Indian subcontinent is also being generated for the Mobile Manager Backup and Restore solution, according to a company report.
Synchronica already has a mobile e-mail customer in MTN Nigeria, Brinkschulte notes.
"The office in Dubai will give the MEA region the attention it needs."
Emerging markets in these regions demand the software because mobile telephony is a convenient mode of communication, considering the otherwise poor fixed-line penetration, he adds.
Ripe platform
In the first quarter of 2007, cellular connections in Africa passed the 200 million mark, according to a recent report by global mobile market database Wireless Intelligence. Growth of 45% in the region positioned it as the fastest growing region, ahead of the Middle East (30%) and Asia-Pacific (28%).
"Mobile telecommunications growth in the regions creates a ripe platform for the solution," notes Brinkschulte.
Mobile e-mail in the consumer sector will take off first in these areas, as opposed to more developed countries, because these consumers rarely have access to a PC at home and may not even have a fixed-line, he adds.
From an operator perspective, the solution is cost-effective and revenue-worthy, considering the majority of the region has access to mobile phones, he comments.
"Businessmen and travellers can check out their e-mails on a standards-based GSM phone without upgrades or visits to cyber caf'es."
Regional director and industry veteran Ayman Majzoub heads up the Dubai office.
