SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for Centennial, a leading network auditing and asset management specialist, today announced the introduction of Centennial Discovery 4.5, a major new release.
This new release introduces Unix and Linux software and hardware auditing capabilities within its leading inventory management solution. Additionally, a powerful new Web Edition is also launched, extending the Web browser capabilities of Discovery to enable audits to be requested as well as viewed from any remote terminal.
"Following these additions, Centennial Discovery now caters for the majority of enterprise desktop systems including Windows, Terminal Server, Citrix, DOS, Linux and Unix," commented Jan Coetzee, Director of SecureData. "The adoption of Linux has gained real momentum in the past 12 months and has become a vital component for this latest version of Centennial Discovery.
"Integration between inventory tracking software and other support tools, such as software deployment and helpdesk systems, is increasingly important as IT systems become more powerful and more complicated," continued Coetzee.
"Many companies are in the process of integrating their support applications operate from numerous locations and across a range of Windows, Terminal Server and Unix/Linux environments. Companies in this situation need a tool capable of managing software and hardware assets from anywhere, and across all their platforms, to expel the risk of expanding beyond licence compliance agreements with software and hardware vendors. Centennial Discovery is designed to cater specifically for these requirements."
Centennial Discovery provides IT managers with a complete up-to-the-minute picture of their organisation's IT inventory, including the status and whereabouts of every piece of hardware, software and accompanying software licences," said Coetzee. "It collects critical data about the dynamics of an organisation's IT infrastructure, and the insight gleaned from this data collection can bolster the effectiveness of internal IT security, systems migration, IT helpdesk support and software licence negotiation."
