Secure Data, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for Centennial, today announced that Medi-Clinic has chosen and installed Centennial Discovery.
Medi-Clinic is an established leader in the private hospital industry in SA, with 36 hospitals nationally and in Namibia. Medi-Clinic was faced with the common challenge that faces most large companies with geographically dispersed sites, namely, managing IT assets and thus, consequently knowing exactly what is installed at each location.
"A small IT team at head office supporting 1 300 remote users posed a problem in ascertaining what we had to support," commented Deon Myburgh of Medi-Clinic Head Office. "Planning upgrades, managing software licences, and keeping our asset register updated, were just a few of our headaches.
"On-site hardware and software support is contracted out to an IT company, thus ensuring that all equipment is on the maintenance schedule and that redundant equipment is removed has been a constant challenge for us.
"The cost and time involved with physical audits made it imperative for Medi-Clinic to find a product that could centrally audit and track our IT assets, provide us with software information and allow each hospital manager to manage their IT assets and effectively budget and plan for upgrades," continued Myburgh. "Centennial has certainly assisted us in overcoming these challenges.
"Additionally, Centennial has enabled us to effectively and accurately plan PC upgrades, manage software licensing, keep our asset register updated, identify any illegal software that users may install and ensure that our PC maintenance contract is accurate and updated."
Centennial has been linked to the Medi-Clinic Intranet Web page, giving hospital managers an easy means of viewing their IT equipment and thus allowing them to accurately budget for upgrades or replacements.
Centennial Discovery, the next-generation network inventory-tracking tool, is the first network inventory-tracking tool that enables organisations to monitor:
* What IT assets are in place;
* Where they are physically located;
* How they are configured;
* When and what changes are made to them;
* Which software applications are installed; and
* How often is the software accessed?
Centennial Discovery was awarded a 'best buy' choice, earlier this year, by UK-based SC Magazine, one of the world's leading security publications.
