Centratel supports children's charity

Johannesburg, 22 Jun 2007

The Centratel Group, the largest multi-vendor telecommunications distributor in sub-Saharan Africa, has pledged its support for the children's charity, Starfish Greathearts Foundation, by sponsoring a golf day which is being held at the Randpark Golf Course on Friday, 6 July.

All proceeds of the golf day will go to Starfish, an international development charity that aims to bring life, hope and opportunity to children in South Africa, who have been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS.

"To date we have 11 sponsors, namely: Sasol, SAB, Pistech, Cell-shack, Mitel, Makro, Motion, Ericsson, MTN, Alcatel and Nokia," said Michael Aitken, group managing director for Centratel.

"This is a great occasion for corporations to get together for a worthy cause and sponsorship opportunities are still available," said Aitken. "In addition, there will be a social programme that will run concurrently to the main event, so non-golfers are also invited to attend what promises to be a fun-filled day," added Aitken.

Sponsorship of a corporate four-ball is R7 000 and includes the fees for the four ball, lunch, a golf cart per four ball and dinner at the prize-giving in the evening. The sponsors will also be given the opportunity to brand a hole, as well as receive branding on the Centratel Web site.

In addition, companies can also hold a competition on their sponsored hole in conjunction with the day's competitions, and give away a prize of their choice at the prize giving.

The following year, a number of these individuals returned to South Africa and officially launched Starfish in its home country on Freedom Day 2002. The charity has been actively inspiring and mobilising individuals in various fields of influence ever since. In the last five years, thousands of people across the globe have caught the Starfish vision, contributing to the community-based care that the organisation is providing for over 20 000 children in South Africa.
