Centre caters for mobile workers

A facility to mobile workers has opened in Bryanston, Sandton, with more planned countrywide.

The centre, Habitaz, offers serviced workspace, technology infrastructure and office support services to professionals in need of part-time workspace, 'hot-desking`, meeting rooms and services.

Habitaz MD Hein Koen says the facility services mainly mobile workers, people who work from home and start-ups averse to associated with office leases, infrastructure and support staff.

Global changes in work patterns are being fuelled by new technology and telecommunications liberalisation, he adds. "The availability and affordability of IT and telecoms infrastructure mean that companies and individuals can now, more than ever, work when and where they want to."

As a result, there is a surge in mobile knowledge workers, consultants and start-up companies that run successful businesses without a central office infrastructure.

The Habitaz centre offers Internet access, a touch-down caf'e area, meeting rooms, boardrooms, office equipment and workstations.

It also offers companies a dedicated telephone number answered in the company name, dedicated fax-to-e-mail numbers and services post boxes.

Habitaz is also developing a range of back-office services for small organisations, including incorporation, accounting, payroll, IT support and corporate identity development.

Plans are under way to roll-out a network of business centres across southern Africa, as well as several major African cities, servicing South African businesses entering those markets.
