Channel Data launches Exabyte X200 Mammothtape Library in South Africa

By Arcay Financial Communications
Johannesburg, 15 Aug 2000

Channel , one of South Africa's leading providers of technology data storage hardware and management to the reseller channel, announces the immediate availability of the Exabyte X200 Mammoth Library in South Africa. Channel Data has been a local distributor of Exabyte products since 1989.

Brian Simpkins, managing director of Channel Data, comments on Exabyte X200, "Tape libraries such as the Exabyte X200 are able to cut data management costs and time by up to 50 percent. Exabyte tape drives and libraries have an excellent reputation for their exceptional performance, reliability and compatibility. Channel Data is confident that the local response to the Exabyte X200 will equal the phenomenal response received from the overseas market."

Information remains the most valuable, and potentially the most costly, computer component. A tape library integrates one or more tape drives with sophisticated robotics that are able to automate nearly all data management functions. Every phase of library operations minimises human intervention, the most common cause of data loss, and so ensures data security.

The Mammoth X200 provides a number of benefits including unattended network backup/restore, remote storage, automated archiving, imaging and hierarchical storage management. These benefits result in improved reliability, reduced downtime and maximised data availability for the user. The product stores up to 12 TB native, scalable from 40 to 200 Exabyte AME data cartridges, and 2 to 10 Mammoth M2 tape drives.

The Exabyte X200 is the latest addition to Exabyte and is the seventh generation development in backup products. Exabyte libraries have consistently demonstrated the highest levels of reliability and software compatibility.
