China dominates PC shipments growth
Shipments of display for all PC types are expected to expand from 80 million units in 2010 to 95 million in 2011.
In contrast to markets such as the US and Western Europe, which moved preference for mobile PCs over desktop solutions in 2007, the present trend in the personal computer market in China indicates that desktop solutions still occupy a major portion of the PC market, with an estimated 57% of the China market share in 2011.
However, Focus Taiwan reports that China's shipments of mobile PCs, including notebooks, netbooks and tablet PCs, are forecast to grow at a faster pace than desktop PCs, according to a consulting firm.
The shipments will increase from 29 million units in 2010 to 70 million in 2013, as Chinese PC brands and Taiwan-based Acer continue to shift consumer purchasing behaviour, DisplaySearch said in a recent report.
China's overall PC market share will increase from just 15% of the global PC market in 2008 to 23% in 2017, putting the region at the same level as North America, the report reads.
Tech Eye states that Robin Wu, DisplaySearch China PC/IT analyst, says China was already the biggest market for monitors and desktop PCs as a result of the rapidly developing economy and greater disposable income for consumers.
Wu added that that China's DIY market consists of self-built PCs are self-built PCs carry no major brand name and are simply the sum of their components.
Since a monitor is purchased with each DIY kit, display shipments are the best indicator for tracking the market.
