CIOs demand clarity on green tech
Panellists at the Environmental IT Leadership forum, held in London, have debated the merits of stretching IT refresh lifecycles, and investing in virtualisation, cloud technology and thin clients to reduce their carbon footprint, says CIO India.
The audience, at the event organised by the environmental charity Global Action Plan, was made of CIOs and IT decision-makers.
Panellist Richard Steel, president of Socitm and CIO at Newham Borough, called for more innovation in technology to tackle climate change issues, saying: "IT is about innovation and we have to recognise the demand for power for these products and concentrate efforts to offset this.”
Dell recycles IT products
Dell has started a three-day IT products recycling initiative at the door of Buynow computer store in the Pudong area of Shanghai, states China Tech News.
Having tried it in Xiamen in May, Dell China now brings the Dell Green Reform Action themed activity to Shanghai.
During the recycling activity, Dell will buy obsolete IT products, including desktops, laptops, printers, computer parts and other computer peripherals, from local residents at the price of CNY1 per kilogram and will show the public how to deal with obsolete computers in an environmentally friendly way.
Foxconn unveils green motherboards
Foxconn has released the second motherboard in its expanding Green Series, with the G45MG based on the Intel G45 chipset, reports Hardware Zone.
The G45MG includes the integrated Intel X4500HD graphics core and support for the latest Intel Core2 Quad and Core2 Duo processors up to 95W power rating.
The motherboard includes Foxconn's proprietary 3G technologies which are designed to reduce power consumption by 68%.
