CIOs lead green IT movement
CIO Insight magazine has released the findings of its Green IT Survey, which found that CIOs are often the key decision-makers for green IT programmes, reports Greener Computing.
According to the report, nearly two-thirds of CIOs at the firms surveyed said they were the main decision-maker or one of the key decision-makers for green IT programmes.
Despite heavy CIO involvement, green IT still has some hurdles to overcome - the survey also found that nearly a quarter of CIOs didn't know if there was a dedicated manager for green IT programmes at their company.
Vendors getting greener
ABI Research has provided an evaluation of the efforts of IT equipment vendors to offer energy-efficient WiFi equipment, data centre equipment and network switches, while rating vendors' products and initiatives, and assessing the environmental performance of equipment, states Market Watch.
According to ABI Research VP Stan Schatt, a trend is growing where IT equipment vendors have consolidated older, energy-inefficient data centres and created their own green data centres.
Schatt says factors driving the market increase in green branded products include regulatory requirements, procurement policies, and cost and space savings.
