Cisco crosses SOA boundaries

Cisco, which promotes service-oriented architecture (SOA) and service-oriented network architecture (SONA), recently unveiled a 'Commerce Transformation' initiative, reports TechRepublic.

Based on SOA principles, the initiative enabled the company to create a solid architectural and technological foundation for both existing and future application development. Cisco is getting measurable results, as the company more than tripled transactions to $4 billion in a year via its SOA-based application.

The initiative netted Cisco top honours as the most compelling case study for 2009, as determined in a competition held by the SOA Consortium and CIO Magazine.

NVIDIA, Microsoft couple GPUs and CPUs

NVIDIA, the high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) vendor, has collaborated with Microsoft to promote the Tesla graphics processing units as solutions for high-performance parallel computing using Microsoft's Windows HPC Server 2008 operating system, according to Softpedia.

“The coupling of GPUs and central processing units (CPUs) illustrates the enormous power and opportunity of multicore co-processing,” says Dan Reed, corporate vice-president of extreme computing at Microsoft.

“NVIDIA's work with Microsoft and the Windows HPC Server platform is helping enable scientists and researchers in many fields achieve supercomputer performance on diverse applications,” he adds.

EMC unveils IT unifying solution

EMC has unveiled EMC Ionix Data Centre Insight, laying the foundation for unified IT configuration visibility across the centre and helping customers accelerate their journey to the private cloud, states Al Bawaba.

The company says Ionix Data Centre Insight has the ability to bring together dependency mapping and discovery across storage, network, server and application domains, enabling customers to evolve their configuration management databases into fully federated configuration management systems.

Ionix Data Centre Insight is a key piece of EMC's newly announced Ionix IT management suite, solutions for IT management across a unified infrastructure of storage, server, network and virtualisation resources.
