Cisco invests in start-up
Cisco and several other investors have given $10.5 million to HyTrust, a virtualisation security start-up, reports Network World.
HyTrust says the funding will aid in development, sales and marketing. HyTrust has integrated its solutions with Cisco's Unified Computing System and Nexus 1000v virtual switch.
Cisco also recently teamed with NetApp and VMware on a security project designed to isolate applications sharing the same physical resources.
DataCore drives storage virtualisation
Storage technology vendor DataCore Software is touting a 3D approach to storage virtualisation, states IT World Canada.
Augie Gonzalez, DataCore Software director of product marketing, says focusing on just server and desktop at the beginning while neglecting storage will lead to negative consequences in the long run.
Dave Pearson, IDC senior analyst for storage, says storage virtualisation is relatively new and is still a support technology led in most cases by server virtualisation.
Virtualisation security ranked top concern
Three quarters of Asia-Pacific enterprises and two-thirds of businesses in Singapore have become victims to cyber attacks in the past 12 months, says PC World.
The 2010 Symantec State of Enterprise Security Study found 38% of Asia-Pacific enterprises and 67% in Singapore rank cyber risk as their top concern - more than natural disasters, terrorism, and traditional crime combined.
Initiatives that IT executives rated as most problematic from a security standpoint include infrastructure-as-a-service, platform-as-a service, server virtualisation, endpoint virtualisation, and software-as-a-service.
