Cisco steps up virtualisation deployments

Cisco is looking to accelerate the rate at which customers adopt and implement virtualisation in their data centres, company officials said at a Cisco customer event this week, says Network World.

Demand for virtualised data centres is high, they said, due to the complexity of managing and provisioning physical resources, securing that environment, maximising utilisation of assets, numerous network connections, and the rising costs of facilities and energy usage.

“Power is increasing at a faster rate than the top line revenue of your company,” said John McCool, senior VP and GM of Cisco's data centre, switching and services group.

Sun Microsystems and RingCube are joining forces to offer Sun Ray users more options when deploying a desktop virtualisation environment, states eWeek.

When RingCube Technologies unveiled version 2.0 of its vDesk desktop virtualisation platform in May, company officials said they wanted to differentiate their technology from that of VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) vendors.

Now RingCube is partnering with Sun Microsystems and integrating vDesk with Sun's VDI offering.

Hewlett-Packard Philippines is set to converge the full benefits of virtualisation for midscale businesses and enterprise organisations through LeftHand Networks storage systems that are anchored on cost-efficiency and easy deployment, reports BusinessMirror.

LeftHand Networks is the creator of iSCSI (Internet Small Computers System Interface) storage area networks that optimise virtual environments, which was later acquired by HP in November 2008.

“The IT infrastructure challenges of today are driven by cost, flexibility and complexity of managing and running servers linked to storages,” started Deane Hornsby, regional product manager for LeftHand Storage Solutions, technology solutions group of HP in Asia-Pacific and Japan.
