Cisco Systems bullish on

Cisco Systems, the $24.8 billion networking technology provider, is bullish on the Indian healthcare market. It is in the process of partnering with various players, reports Sify Business.

The company believes that the healthcare industry will rapidly take to new technology, not just to remain competitive but also be part of the global integration process.

The healthcare industry is extremely fragmented, and accounts for 6.1% of the gross domestic product. This is projected to grow to about 8.5% 2012. Typically, healthcare industry players spend about 5% of their overall revenues on technology, said country manager and senior VP, Cisco Systems, Jangoo Dalal.

Home health monitoring systems implemented

ALRT500 disease management reminder and home health monitoring systems are being implemented in the homes of supervised mentally retarded adults, according to press release.

A pilot run with the ALRT500 system in February of this year resulted in an initial order to implement the system in residences where special needs adults were supervised.

ALR Technologies has completed the development of its next-generation medication and treatment compliance reminder system and is taking orders with first deliveries scheduled early in the third quarter.

Growth expected in RFID use

Research and Markets` "RFID and Emerging Technologies Guide to Healthcare" predicts RFID and related technology in the hospital marketplace will grow to $8.8 billion by 2010, reports More RFID.

It will be segmented into three general categories: hardware and software integration ($1.3 billion); infrastructure support for RFID enablement: wireless networks ($1.3 billion) and enterprise-related software ($1.4 billion); and hospital connectivity ($4.8 billion).
