Cisco unveils VOIP for SMEs
Internet protocol (VOIP) and unified communications systems to a wider market through cost reductions and simplifications, iTWire reports.
This is part of the networking giant's plans to help mid-sized organisations replace old PABXes with enterprise-grade IP collaboration at an affordable price.
Network Computing indicates the move involves two existing lines that have been upgraded and renamed - the Cisco Business Edition 3000 (formerly known as the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 3000), and the Cisco Business Edition 6000 (formerly known as the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 6000).
Justin Jaffe, IDC research manager for SME and home office research, says: "Though mid-market firms generally don't have the IT budgets and resources available to large enterprises, they grapple with many of the same kinds of complex IT problems.
“Solutions that are customisable, that allow a firm to leverage existing analogue infrastructure but also engage with SIP technology, and that incorporate cloud capabilities are going to be particularly appealing to mid-size businesses."
ITProPortal says the new offerings allow mid-size businesses access to collaboration services such as instant and video messaging.
"Cisco is striving to help mid-market organisations succeed by giving them greater opportunities for cross-company collaboration and the benefits of video-enhanced interactions," explains Steve Slattery, Cisco VP and GM, IP communications business unit.
