Citrix's virtualisation tech backs Chromebooks

Network World.

The Citrix Receiver Tech Preview for Chrome OS, available on the Chrome Web Store, is a free client app for businesses that use Citrix virtualisation to host desktops and applications in the centre.

Consumers and enterprise users that deal with documents offline earlier found that offline Google Docs support made Chromebooks more functional without an connection, says CMS Wire.

Rajen Sheth, product manager of Chrome for Business says that the latest stable build of Chrome OS now has better enterprise-friendly features, particularly VPN support, secure and access to virtualised desktops.

According to CRN, Chromebooks, which Google unveiled in May at its I/O developer conference, have been criticised for not offering users more control over file system, virus protection and hardware settings.

Chromebooks are Google's bid to remake the notebook PC in a way that has cloud-computing oozing figuratively from every port.

Google still has a long way to go in getting enterprises to trust Chromebooks.
