The Southampton City Council has awarded Unisys a four-year contract extension to continue delivery of technical enhancements and business process improvements to the Local Taxation and Benefits service, which incorporates Council Tax and Housing Benefit.
With the partnership now extended to September 2009, the expanded programme will focus on further innovation to improve services to Southampton residents, while delivering significant cost savings anticipated to be around half a million UK pounds a year for the council.
The successful partnership between Unisys and Southampton City Council will continue to streamline service delivery to residents in line with the UK`s central government initiatives and legislation. Other key elements of the contract include new approaches to the prevention of fraud at source and innovative service delivery mechanisms, such as online claim forms for benefits.
Sue Collinson, business support and development manager, Southampton City Council, says: "Our main reason for awarding the extension to Unisys was the unique partnership that has developed between our two organisations. The contract we have with Unisys actively creates new processes to improve citizen experience which helps us meet new government efficiency guidelines on improving quality of service."
Tony Volker, project director, Unisys Africa, says the Southampton City Council and Unisys have worked as a single team to introduce new initiatives, such as online forms, which deliver real benefits to the community, as well as cost reduction for the council.
"This contract extension means Unisys can build on what has already been achieved, allowing Southampton City Council to concentrate on delivering fast and efficient services to its residents. It`s yet another example of Unisys`s understanding of the public sector. Our technologies and services help to take state and local government into the 21st century.
