Johannesburg, 10 Aug 2000

PeopleSoft, a global provider of e-business solutions and applications, has announced the first non-commercial role based enterprise portal available for higher .

"The PeopleSoft Portal for Higher Education enables colleges and universities to control the content of their Web sites while providing individual users the information and functionality which is personalised to their specific role," says Jan Coetzee, MD of PeopleSoft South Africa.

Coetzee explains that this control allows institutions to tailor the site to the needs of its community while eliminating advertising that is irrelevant to the educational mission. The portal controls content and access to all information on the Internet and does not require typical advertising or third-party content.

"PeopleSoft enables institutions of any size to use the power of the Internet to improve service levels without cluttering the screen with content that may be contrary to the educational mission. Regardless of whether you are a student, instructor, employee or alumnus, the Portal is designed to address your specific needs," continues Coetzee.

"In addition to the PeopleSoft higher education applications such as Student Administration, Financials for Education and Government, HRMS, Grants and Advancements, the PeopleSoft Portal delivers advanced Internet technology. The portal makes the institutions web site a central, single point of access integrating third-party content and applications such as news, feeds, search engines and e-mail allowing the college to control information access by assigning roles to all its users," concludes Coetzee.
