Clients can co-locate with Neotel

Johannesburg, 12 May 2008

Neotel has officially launched its co-location centre, which provides hosting services for , server and storage equipment for the company's enterprise customers and connects them to a network provider.

A co-location centre enables customers to access backup infrastructure of the quality, scale and size that they cannot justify as an in-house investment, says Neotel spokesman Zinhle Modiselle.

This is a particularly attractive option when companies are hesitant to relinquish complete control over their and sensitive information, it says.

According to Modiselle, customers can choose between 1Mbps, 2Mbps, 5Mbps or 10Mbps of bandwidth for service offerings. This allows them to cater for unplanned demand and to benefit from a scalable tariff plan, she says.

Customers are also allowed to scale up on the hosted infrastructure when the need arises, so that they can quickly access vital market opportunities, she adds.

Modiselle notes that the benefits of using a co-location service include reducing the time it takes for a company to go to market with a product, as it uses the co-located infrastructure rather than having to set up from scratch.

Most first tier Internet service providers in SA already offer co-location facilities for their customers.

Companies that offer this service include Internet Solutions, Verizon Business and MTN Network Solutions.
