Cloud has another decade to mature
A new report from Gartner suggests that cloud services have another decade to go before they mature to their potential, and warns companies against rushing into the market, states V3.
The analyst house estimates that around 75% of companies will eventually use the cloud as their primary supplier of e-mail and collaboration tools, but says this would take at least until 2020.
While there are early adopters moving into the market, cloud e-mail will not be attracting large-scale support until as late as 2014 the report found.
Verizon achieves cloud compliance
Verizon says its Computing-as-a-Service (CaaS) cloud computing offering is the first cloud-based solution to complete the PCI DSS audit for storing, processing and transmitting credit card information, says WebHost.
The company says the certification may be a compelling reason for retailers and other organisations that process credit card data to move their critical payment applications to the cloud.
Verizon says its CaaS underwent a third-party examination of policies, procedures and technical systems, as well as an on-site assessment and system-wide vulnerability scan.
Firm to extend cloud to SMEs
As an attempt to make the IT services affordable for SMEs in the country, India's leading IT company TCS is set to start cloud offering by September, writes SiliconIndia.
This cloud service aims to lower the cost of ownership by 35 to 40% whereby the traditional licensing model will be replaced by a monthly subscription model.
The IT stack includes hardware, networking and software.
