In an economic climate requiring careful financial planning and spending, virtual hosting with cloud computing offers a welcome solution for many companies.

This is according to Intdev Technologies, which says this is one technology option that doesn't cost anywhere near its real value.

"Cloud computing is the answer for those who need computing power without having to spend on hardware and technical input," says Thorsten Neumann, MD of Intdev.

"Your machine continues to work like a normal desktop computer, only it's using the huge processing power, storage and memory of the 'cloud'."

He adds that resources in the cloud are billed according to usage. “A single virtual machine, for example, is billed by the hour and users are able to stop and start a virtual machine at the click of a button," explains Neumann.

The company says strong interest from local SMEs proves the need for businesses to maintain a steady financial footing, as well as keep their intellectual capital "in the clouds".

It adds that cloud computing is set to reduce the spending of IT departments, as resources are used on an ad hocbasis. “It provides scalable, virtual resources as a service over the Internet.”

The technology is well suited for advertising, film, mining and engineering industries, or anywhere a large volume of files need to be processed, says Intdev.

"There's never been a more important time to take advantage of technology that puts you ahead of your competitors,” concludes Neumann.
