Dairy giant Clover has chosen Agilisys Advanced Scheduling to optimise the production scheduling of its complex mix of products. Agilisys Advanced Scheduling will support Clover`s production scheduling requirements for managing the challenges it faces in its push-pull production environment. Clover will initially implement Agilisys Advanced Scheduling in four of its factories.
As the largest dairy company in SA, Clover manufactures a wide range of dairy and dairy-related products such as beverages and desserts. It also manages the distribution of these products - and other food products of principal manufacturers - throughout SA, and to selected neighbouring states such as Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho. Clover Distribution manages more than 1 000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) in its supply chain in all three temperature bands of ambient, chilled and frozen. Milk collection from farms and transport to factories is an integral part of Clover`s supply chain.
Nici Vorster, logistics manager at Clover, says the company wanted to improve the visibility and reliability of its production schedules, and optimise resources to increase productivity and throughput. All this had to be achieved while reducing production costs. "As we sought a scheduling solution that was the best fit for our business and industry needs, Agilisys was identified as the most functionally complete, proven solution for us as a dairy producer and an organisation with an intricate supply chain network," says Vorster. "The solution is designed to meet the needs of the food and beverage industry and can fulfil our unique and complex requirements."
The solution will be implemented by ApplyIT, the local IT specialist for the process manufacturing industry and distributor of Agilisys in SA, along with Agilisys`s European consultants.
Gavin Halse, MD of ApplyIT, says Clover selected Agilisys Advanced Scheduling because the solution meets the company`s specific dairy requirements including multi-stage scheduling, tank scheduling and resource optimisation.
"Agilisys and ApplyIT gave us confidence in the strength of the Agilisys solution through detailed workshops and business cases that completely satisfied our requirements for a powerful, industry-specific production scheduling solution," says Vorster. "The company will have the flexibility to manage its scheduling process and the opportunity to see rapid performance improvement as a result."
"Clover will recognise significant optimisation improvements with its implementation of Agilisys Advanced Scheduling, the most robust production scheduling solution for the process industries and specifically for dairy," says Halse.
