Cognos SA launches knowledge management education programme

Johannesburg, 23 Jun 1999

Cognos South Africa has launched a programme of workshops and courses designed to help organisations implement a knowledge management strategy based on proven methodologies and achievable bottom line benefits.

The aim is to ensure that companies have a thorough understanding of what knowledge management entails, how to achieve knowledge goals and the need for solid data management foundations to be in place to make knowledge management a success.

"Too many companies are throwing technology at their managers and expecting them to deliver miracles in the name of knowledge management," says Ralph Pecker, managing director, Cognos SA. "It doesn`t work like that. It has to be well thought out; the goals defined; and infrastructures put in place. Our new education programme will help both business managers and IT departments approach knowledge management with knowledge rather than ignorance." The new programme has been split into three streams targeted at different business audiences:

  • Knowledge Management Workshops I - run in conjunction with Ernst & Young, these workshops, comprising four different sessions, are designed for senior executives. They demonstrate how businesses can improve performance and their bottom line using Ernst & young`s performance Management methodology (including the Balanced Scorecard and Cognos` 24 Ways methodologies).

  • Knowledge Management Workshops II - run by Cognos in conjunction with its business partners these workshops are designed for department managers including IT personnel. In addition to detailing the 24 Ways methodology, the workshops will examine the benefits of Dimension modeling in structuring a knowledge management strategy and explain the role of Business Intelligence in a knowledge organisation.

  • HotHouse - run by Cognos, this course is specifically designed for IT and explores the best ways to deliver data management as the solid foundation on which do build sound knowledge management practices.
