Commerce One announces new customer wins in Q4 2002

Johannesburg, 06 Feb 2003

Commerce One today announced new additions to its customer roster in the fourth quarter of 2002. Leading companies such as the South African Post Office selected Commerce One supplier relationship management (SRM) solutions to gain visibility and control over their supply networks.

Additionally, leading consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies, including Bel/Kaukauna U.S.A., Daisy Brands, Hoffmaster/Creative Expressions and Sargento Foods Inc purchased Commerce One solutions to improve collaboration across their supply chains.

The South African Post Office, the prime mover of written and published information in SA servicing 40 million people, selected the entire Commerce One 5.0 suite to deliver savings on its annual corporate spend of over R3 billion. Commerce One 5.0 will be deployed to approximately 4 000 employees to manage the South African Post Office's complete source-to-pay business process, increasing procurement efficiencies and reducing costs.

"We expect to save millions of rands by bringing new efficiency and speed to source-to-pay business processes as we gain more visibility and control over our supply networks," said Maanda Manyatshe, CEO of the South African Post Office. "We also plan to offer these solutions to other organisations and government departments to help them become more competitive through the adoption of an outsourced e-procurement solution, while maintaining focus on their primary business."

Bel/Kaukauna USA purchased Commerce One's solutions for UCCnet implementation. "Commerce One's knowledge and expertise in the consumer packaged goods industry has been a real asset in helping us work with UCCnet to synchronise item data with our customers," said Dustin Van Straten, customer service manager, Bel/Kaukauna USA. "We expect to be able to introduce new items and communicate changes to existing items in minutes rather than days. This will help us drive costs out of the supply chain and enhance speed to market on new items."

"We continue to gain momentum in the consumer packaged goods industry with our industry-leading UCCnet trading partner applications, and around the world with our supplier relationship management solutions," said Mark Hoffman, chairman and CEO of Commerce One. "In the coming months, we expect the new Commerce One 6.0 Conductor platform to significantly extend the capabilities and return on investment of these installed applications. The Conductor platform will allow managers to design new business processes using composite applications to gain additional value and capabilities from their existing applications and infrastructure."
