Community clinics get technology boost
According to Bizjournals, California community clinics and health centres serving the uninsured and low-income earners will benefit from a $4.5 million technology programme to improve chronic disease care.
The "Tools for Quality" programme, funded through five health care philanthropies, will provide 33 clinics throughout the state with up to $40 000 each in matching funds to support software systems that will help doctors and nurses track patients and make sure that they get the right care at the right time.
About 38% of Californians live with a chronic disease, and studies show they get the needed care about half of the time, according to the foundation.
Intel investing in
Intel is making a substantial investment in developing technologies that will enable "a new model of healthcare that is personal and distributed" to help deal with the time bomb of an ageing and chronic-disease suffering population worldwide, says Bjhcim.
About 20 healthcare-related projects were on show at the Research at Intel Day 2008 held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California recently. These were just some of over 70 projects and concepts on show that are under way in its labs in the areas of faster computing, low-energy computing, visual computing, wireless technologies, future health care needs and more.
The company invests $6 billion in research annually in its numerous research departments and in collaborations with universities, governments, companies and other organisations.
