CommVault's Simpana enterprise data management platform achieves VMware Ready data protection status

CommVault Simpana software eases data management in virtualised environment, including data protection, archive, replication and reporting.

Johannesburg, 11 Nov 2009

CommVault (http://www.commvault.com) Systems (NASDAQ: CVLT) announced that CommVault Simpana software (http://www.commvault.com/products.html) and Simpana Universal Virtual Server Agent have now achieved VMware Ready Data Protection Status.

Simpana software is ideally suited for enterprises planning to deploy server virtualisation, implement a disaster recovery site with virtual machines, as well as for organisations seeking simple, cost-effective solutions for streamlining data management in virtualised environments, including backup and recovery (http://www.commvault.com/products-backup-recovery.html), archive (http://www.commvault.com/products-archive.html), replication (http://www.commvault.com/products-replication.html) and reporting. The VMware Ready designation indicates that Simpana software has passed a detailed evaluation and testing process defined by VMware (http://www.vmware.com/) and is now listed on the VMware Partner Product Catalogue (http://wwwa.vmware.com/partnercatalog/catalog/PublicCatalog.php) as a solution that delivers optimised levels of integration, functionality and performance.

Passing the extensive VMware Ready Data Protection testing helps ensure that CommVault Simpana 8 is tuned to leverage VMware platform functionality and is ready for deployment in joint customer environment.

CommVault customers can now take advantage of “VMware Ready” Simpana software to reduce the administrative challenges and costs of managing explosive data growth and growing virtualised environments.

David West, vice-president of marketing and business development for CommVault, says: “As organisations of all sizes increasingly turn to server virtualisation to wring out costs from their legacy IT environments, they're also embracing Simpana software to better protect growing volumes of data residing on both physical and virtual systems. We're working closely with VMware to ensure that Simpana software meets the latest VMware qualifications and interoperability criteria so we can help our customers benefit from virtualisation and dramatically improved data protection at the same time.”

CommVault Simpana software embraces a Singular Information Management approach (http://www.commvault.com/products.html) with interoperable data management modules that leverage a single code base to ease the management and protection of mission-critical data residing on both physical and virtual systems.

With Simpana software's Universal Virtual Server Agent (http://www.commvault.com/solutions-virtualization.html), backup, recovery and retention of data hosted within VMware vSphere 4 environments can be simplified through integration with the VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) framework.

“By combining Simpana software with the VMware vSphere 4 platform, enterprises can achieve heightened levels of data protection while easing various aspects of data management in their growing virtualised environments,” Says Parag Patel, vice-president of alliances at VMware. “We are pleased that CommVault Simpana software qualifies for the VMware Ready Data Protection program, signifying to customers that Simpana software has passed specific VMware testing criteria and is ready to run their mission-critical business applications and operations.”

CommVault is committed to working with VMware to ensure that Simpana software continues to take advantage of the unique capabilities of VMware vSphere 4 while working across heterogeneous environments, regardless of hardware, application OS and type.

The VMware Ready Data Protection program is a VMware co-branding program for qualified partner products and is a benefit of the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program. With more than 1 000 members worldwide, the VMware TAP program works with best-of-breed technology partners to provide them with a comprehensive set of VMware technical and marketing services, support, tools and expertise to deliver enhanced value to joint customers.
