Compaq Computer has introduced a set of storage solutions for the storage area network (SAN) market. The company says the solutions address key business issues faced by customers on a daily basis.
The new offerings include the StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solution, new Ultra 3 Technology and value-added Rack and Power Protection products such as the Compaq Pro UPS 500.
The company also introduced solutions for the clustering market with new ProLiant software. This includes ProLiant HA/F500 Stretch Cluster Functionality and ProLiant NonStop Clusters for SCO Unixware.
According to Julian Simpkins, storage products division business unit manager at Compaq, the storage solutions increase data availability, reduce operational costs, and speed application development and deployment time.
Compaq says the SAN solutions provide worldwide data replication capabilities that include software that instantly backs up and restores data. In addition, the software features a pro-active "phone-home" notification of service issues for faster response and resolution.
The StorageWorks Enterprise Volume Manager was also on the release list. This solution is said to help businesses solve their shrinking backup windows through the use of snapshots. The software also provides point-in-time copies of data for business-critical applications.
Compaq says that customers can now protect data over greater distances in a SAN-based environment.
