New Presario Notebooks for the Internet Age
Compaq Computer today introduces its range of Presario notebooks and announces new additions to its Presario range of home PCs. The new consumer offerings extend Compaq`s most advanced and powerful Presario home product line ever.
Designed to provide users with the best Internet computing experience, these Presarios include easy Internet setup and access services for reliable and affordable Web access, easier navigation to the most popular Web activities and integrated technologies to make optimal use of the Internet. The new models offer significantly faster processors, more memory and massive storage capacity - all at lower prices.
Compaq`s new Presario PC product line-up is offered with a range of the latest processors and includes multimedia monitors with the most advanced digital technologies, impressive core features and the software and service to back them up. All PCs announced today include a 56K V.901 modem for quick Internet access and Compaq`s Easy Access Internet Keyboard.

The Compaq Presario 5100 and 5200 Series
These microtowers combine the latest multimedia functionality at competitive desktop prices. These PCs have accelerated 2X AGP 3D graphics and use the latest 100 Mhz front size bus for sharper and more realistic 3D imaging. The 5200 Series also features Compaq`s unique Creative Action Centre with two USB ports and a Midi/Game port on the front of the PC for easy connection to digital cameras, scanners and gamepads. In addition, the JBL Pro speakers, Dolby Digital Sound and JBL 3D Virtual Theater (VMax) provide a cinema like audio experience at home.

Presario Internet Notebooks Deliver Innovative Design, Performance and Value Bringing performance and value standards into the notebook category, Compaq delivers two new Internet notebooks - the Presario 1920, and the Presario 1255 - featuring innovative design, performance and Internet functionality at aggressive price points.
All new models feature the Compaq Internet Zone with a one-touch "Easy Scroll" button, located near the touchpad, that allows users to quickly scroll through Web pages, documents, spreadsheets and more. The new notebooks also feature one-touch Internet access to Web searching, secure online shopping and a user-programmable Instant E-mail button.
The highly innovative Presario 1920 is the first ultra-thin and light DVD notebook with a unique detachable wedge. With this new design, customers get the ease of use of a full function notebook combined with the convenience of an ultra-thin and light product.

"Even at 5 pounds in weight and 1.2 inches thin, this remarkable product includes the latest technologies such as large 13.3-inch TFT displays, AGP graphics, and the 300MHz Intel Pentium II processor. With the wedge attached, the Presario 1920 also provides outstanding DVD movie playback."
The Presario 1920 includes 64 MB of memory, a 4GB Ultra DMA Hard Drive, and a smart high-capacity Lithium ION battery.
Also being announced is the Presario 1255, with a 333 MHz AMD-K6-2 Processor with 3DNow! Technology. "With aggressive pricing, Compaq delivers unrivaled value to home and small office/home office users," added Cason.
The Presario 1255, priced at R10,999.002 , is equipped with an integrated 56K ITU V.90 modem for fast downloads, 32 MB of memory, a 24X Max CD-ROM drive, a 3.2GB hard drive, and 12.1-inch HPA display.
All Compaq Presario products announced today come with a one-year carry-in warranty and are both Energy star- and NSTL Year 2000-compliant.

Easy Access Internet Keyboard
Compaq`s new Presario Internet PCs are designed to provide the best Internet experience. The Instant Internet Button on the keyboard launches the Compaq Internet Set Up Wizard which features the Internet Service Provider partner software already installed - providing an easy step-by-step click through to getting connected.
The suite of buttons provides quick access to getting connected, whether to the Internet Provider of choice, Instant E-mail, easy search or Web navigation (with Instant Search button), and helpful information about their Presario via the Favourite Site Button. All buttons are re-programmable via a Web-based tutorial on the Compaq website.
Compaq Service Connection
All Compaq Presarios include an automated update tool powered by Backweb technologies ,providing a totally new style of web based service that will automatically download software updates or helpful hints whenever users log on to the internet. This innovative tool provides allows complete user privacy, as users always have the choice to intall update files or to delete them
"Select Your Software"
In addition to the Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Works 4.5 and Microsoft Word 97 software pre-installed on the Presario range, Compaq, in partnership with leading software providers, is offering a choice of additional packages with the home PC products announced today. This allows customers the opportunity to choose software titles that will address their specific needs. Compaq`s software choice list includes 20 titles, covering the areas of productivity, creativity, reference and games.
