Compaq gets closer to portable Gigahertz with 850MHz notebook -Tarsus ships new Armada

Compaq`s new Armada E500 achieves the optimum balance between performance and value for convenience users, taking its notebook range ever closer to the Gigahertz grail. According to Terence Barter, product manager for Compaq at Tarsus Technologies, the E500 is an ideal machine for the corporate user in a hurry and includes features such as 8MB AGP 2X graphics and up to 850MHz Intel Mobile Pentium III processors.

"These machine also feature large 15-inch displays, satisfying the demand from users for bigger screens on portable machines," he says.

Large hard drives (up to 20GB standard) guarantee plenty of storage space while up to 512MB RAM delivers blistering performance from these notebooks. Additional features include an integrated all-in-one design, 3-spindle support with MultiBay and DualBay, and Common Docking to the ArmadaStation EM, Armada Convenience Base EM, Armada Port Replicator EM for unbeatable flexibility and convenience. The MultiBay supports a DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, CD-RW, Superdisk 2X LS-120, extra hard drive, or extra battery for superior expandability, while the DualBay supports a floppy or extra battery.

"The Armada E500 features a new slim design and weighs in at around 2,8 kilograms, while for those that need serious battery performance, the E500 can support up to three batteries for over nine hours of battery life," adds Barter.

Features designed to guarantee the longevity of the Armada E500 include a mylar lining under the keyboard to provide greater from accidental spills, while a shock-mounted hard drive enclosure provides added hard drive stability.
