IT systems integrator Comparex has appointed a new chairman to replace Roux Marnitz, who is retiring to focus on his aviation interests.
The group announced at its annual meeting this morning that Russell Chambers would assume the non-executive chairmanship.
Chambers, a non-executive director at Comparex since 1994, has been the chairman of the group`s remuneration committee and a member of the audit committee.
He retired as chief operations director of Barlow Limited (now Barloworld) after a long career with the Barlow Rand group.
Marnitz, who guided Comparex to become a local giant and an international player, handed over his CEO post to Rian du Plessis early last year to take up the non-executive chairmanship.
Marnitz emphasises that he supports the current Comparex board and its plans.
"My retirement from Comparex Holdings is purely for personal reasons, among others my desire to devote much more time to my personal interest in flying and aviation matters.
"I fully support the direction in which the executive team and board of Comparex are taking the company, and continue to have the utmost faith in the management and board."
Marnitz, formerly chairman of Persetel Holdings, one of the companies merged to form what has now become Comparex, says he has expressed his willingness to advise and support management if necessary.
