Hannes King, technical support engineer at leading SA technology distributor, Comztek, has become the first person in this country to achieve the prestigious 3Com Certified Wireless LAN Expert certification.
Complex 3Com wireless switch technology can now be properly designed, implemented and supported here for the first time. Prior to this, installations had to be done by trial and error.
King obtained the certification following a month`s intensive study, a week of which was spent completing the Wireless LAN Mobility System module in Zurich, Switzerland. He gained the certification despite not being in a position to attend classroom courses for the initial two modules. Instead, he studied for these on his own - in his spare time - thereby completing the certification in record time.
"Wireless technology is so much in demand now, and I could not afford too much time out of the office," says King. "I also could not keep customers on hold by waiting for the next lot of courses."
3Com wireless technology is ideal for wireless voice over IP (VOIP) installations, as well as medium to large wireless deployments.
"Without this technology, these implementations are too costly and simply not feasible," says King.
As a result of his qualification, Comztek is now in a position to market more of 3Com`s wireless technology equipment in this country as it now has local support.

King`s additional qualifications include: 3Com Certified Network associate, Certified VERITAS Backup Exec 10 Administrator and Certified Novell Engineer.
