CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) has announced that it is to expand its local activities into Sub-Saharan Africa, to cater to a growing interest in CompTIA certifications on the continent.
"In conjunction with testing vendors, our objective is to ascertain where IT training is already taking place in Africa, and then establish links with government departments to determine ways to further enhance technical skills development," says international sales and marketing director Adrian Schofield. "We will also be working with schools and tertiary institutions, educating them on the relevant foundation courses we offer, so that they in turn can provide their matriculants and graduates with the right qualifications that will lead them into the IT sector."
Initially, CompTIA will concentrate on countries with existing IT infrastructures, such as Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria and Ghana.
"I am extremely excited about this challenge, which is in line with CompTIA`s strategy to promote international certification standards worldwide," Schofield continues. "During 2000, CompTIA developed sound and healthy relations in the South African market, and played an integral role in providing leadership to advance the local computing industry. I am confident that we will be able to continue this success in the rest of Africa."
