CompTIA`s new Internet certification builds industry momentum

Johannesburg, 12 Apr 2000

i-Net+, the newest vendor-neutral certification from CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association, continues to expand its market presence with the endorsement of industry leaders Intel, Novell and ProsoftTraining.com, and AIP, the Association of Professionals.

Analysts estimate that the worldwide base of Internet users will reach 227 million in 2001. "The i-Net+ program is an entry point for individuals to participate in the opportunities being created in the dot com space. The future is about the Internet, specifically e-knowledge and e-skills. More than ever before there is a real need for individuals from the reception desk to the board room to acquire Internet skills," said Uday Om Pabrai, who chairs the i-Net+ Subject Matter Expert committee.

"i-Net+ certification encompasses the core technologies used in the Internet economy, and represents an excellent validation of skills needed to begin building secure, reliable e-Business solutions," said Susan Davidson, worldwide program manager of the Intel Certification Program. "As a result, Intel accepts the i-Net+ certification as meeting the baseline requirements for the Intel Certified Integration Specialist e-Business implementation (ICIS) track, because it provides a solid foundation for Internet professionals who will deploy the building blocks of the Internet economy."

Novell embraces i-Net+ as a baseline certification for its Certified Internet Professional program, and ProsoftTraining.com allows the i-Net+ exam to substitute for passing its own Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Foundations exam. "i-Net+ will help introduce Internet certification to employers and employees and propel new careers," said Jonathan Thatcher, chair of the i-Net+ advisory committee and certification manager at Novell. "With the number of Internet jobs available today, and with a growing number of individuals seeking Internet careers, i-Net+ is a great way to connect with these jobs."

"CompTIA has long been recognized for designing and implementing vendor-neutral certification programs which traverse the entire IT industry. I-Net is a great example," said Andrew Kraft, executive director of AIP. "Following a comprehensive review process, i-Net+ has been shown to adhere to AIP`s standards for foundation-level Internet certification as defined accreditation status of i-Net+."

Designed under the CompTIA umbrella by a group of IT industry leaders and professionals, i-Net+ followed the same stringent development process that has been defined for all of the CompTIA`s certification programs. EarthWeb, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Novell, Global Training Solutions, HyCurve, Prosofttraining.com, Wave Technology International and the AIP all participated in the development process and are represented on the i-Net+ advisory committee to oversee the certification.
